Treatments normally take place on a padded floor surface (futon) although any physical disabilities or discomforts will be taken into consideration. Shiatsu can also be received whilst sitting in a chair. Shiatsu is performed through clothing, so loose, comfortable clothes eg tracksuit or loose trousers and long sleeved shirt, preferably made of natural fibres, should be worn.
It is advisable not to eat a heavy meal 2 hours prior to treatment and to take no alcohol on the day of treatment. Drink plenty of water afterwards and avoid doing anything stressful or strenuous.
Sessions usually last 40 - 60 minutes including time for discussion. The initial session will be longer to enable time for detailed questions about your health and lifestyle. The answers will give the practitioner a complete picture of your health using the principals of Oriental Medicine . |
