I worked in the catering industry for a number of years; progressing from washer-upper to sous chef. In between job changes I travelled through North America.
Having been an insulin-dependent diabetic since the age of 12, food and what it does to the body has always been a priority in my life, especially more so when I discovered that I also suffered from the coeliac condition.
For a long time I have been keen to learn about healing, particularly alternative medicine, as I believe in Naturopathic principles, respect for our bodies and non-interference with our Life-Force wherever possible.
Herbal medicine has always fascinated me, from Western herbs (about which I read avidly) to Chinese Herbal medicine which I studied with East-West College. Ayurveda was also included in the course.
Eager for more 'hands-on' experience, I was drawn to studying Reiki, and so after leaving East-West with a foundation certificate, I went on to study Reiki levels 1, 2, 2 advanced, and 3 (masters), and I do some attunements and teaching occasionally, when asked.
During my Reiki training, I felt that I should go back to working with food, but this time as a nutritional therapist rather than back in hotel kitchens again!
I enrolled with the Plaskett Nutritional Medicine College, to learn more about my own disorders, and those of others. I gained a Diploma in Nutrition and at the end of 5 years, qualified as a Wholistic Nutritional Medicine Practitioner, also gaining a Diploma in Iridology along the way.
I am a member of BANT (British Association for Nutritional Therapy). For more information about BANT click on the link below.
